Morrison Hotel Gallery
If you like photography and love music, check out The Morrison Hotel Gallery.
Strengths
The Morrison Hotel Gallery is a showcase for the work of the premier fine art music photographers. For example, there’s Henry Diltz. As a musician himself, Diltz has had unique access to and insight into his subjects, including Jimi Hendrix, Crosby Stills Nash & Young and The Doors. And there’s Bob Gruen, the personal photographer for John Lennon & Yoko Ono, who also took famous portraits and candids of artists such as Elvis, Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, Madonna and Elton John. And Herb Greene, who captured the San Francisco rock music scene with unforgettable photos of Led Zeppelin, The Grateful Dead and The Jefferson Airplane.
Shortcomings
It's easy to get carried away at this place. The first time I stumbled onto it, I wasn't even looking for photography, but became an instant collector, with an order for three prints.
Insider tips
Depending on the artists and the work, if you buy multiple prints you might be able to swing a deal.
Anecdotes
As I write this, I’m looking up at two photographs that inspire me every day. One is a triptych of Jimi Hendrix in three colorways looking about as cool as a cat can be, and another is a youthful portrait of Mick Jagger at age 23, sitting in front of an Aston Martin and about to Rock the world.
