L'Orange Bleue
A fun, festive restaurant that turns into a Moroccan party.
Guide: Euro (Giancarlo)
Location: Soho
Strengths
- This place is festive and fun for a small group, or a date (but not a first date or even a second date- make sure you know their tastes first).
- The food is mostly from Southern France and Northern Africa, including delicious tagines and seafood.
- The vibe is laid-back and European.
- A great spot for a birthday party.
- You can eat outdoors when the weather is warm.
Shortcomings
- They don't accept Visa- only Amex and cash.
Insider tips
- Monday night is Moroccan night, which means you'll get hit with a $35 cover charge and a Moroccan prix fixe menu, but you'll get belly-dancing shows with live music (at 8:30 and 10pm). Personally, I think it's really fun.
- They also have belly dancing on weekends around 9:30-10pm.
- They have 1/2 priced oysters for Happy Hour from 5-6 everyday.
Anecdotes
- I went with a friend from school and randomly stumbled into Moroccan night. We thought we were going to have a fairly tame catch-up dinner, but ended up at a party. The dancer and the live music really livened the place up and made for particularly interesting conversation.
