Strengths

• There are several seating areas in the lobby, including a Freeman's-esque room with a zinc-topped bar and antique mirrored ceilings, an outdoor space and an area with Persian rugs, dark-wood paneling, velvet sofas and a sandstone fireplace.
• It's a great meeting spot for a date, to meet friends, or for business drinks.
• There's always great people watching and a lively scene.

Shortcomings

• The decor has a bit of a wintry feel to it.

Insider tips

• Go when there's a chill in the air, and have a scotch by the fireplace.

Anecdotes

• As I write this, the Bowery Hotel lobby has a great vibe - very chic, and not too crowded. I hope it doesn't morph into another Maritime Hotel (same owners). Hopefully it won't, given that it's in a less frenetic neighborhood.
